Confessions of a Movie Slut

in the year 2006, our heroine embarks on her most treacherous challenge yet-to lead a decent life despite the insanity and pressures that come with academia. she pursues honours in english though her thesis is on film. an opportunity to prove to herself that she can think. and actually think hard. will she finally transcend the ways of the fuckwit to become a competent person? will she be able to watch all those movies without growing a tumour or becoming catatonic? stay tuned.

men in skirts

that has been my mantra ever since i prepared for the arrival of the beautifully filmed, trashy, overbaked ham, troy. i love homer as much as the next puritanical classicist. and as most of my nearest and dearest would know by now- i loathe brad pitt with a passion. so there's enough reason that this movie would suck big time for me... but the prospect of seeing gorgeous men in iron skirts and golden sandals with bronzed biceps glistening in the sun pretty much does it for me. will this film do 'the iliad' justice? obviously not. is homer turning in his grave? he's probably trashing his pad in the afterlife. but what i love about this movie already is that it is blatantly marketed to women audiences when traditionally the general audience was perceived as collectively male. it's about time that women are acknowledged as huge and active consumers of this industry (aside from the painfully persistent manufacturing of cornball romantic comedies). witness the rise of the power of the female gaze. suck on that, foucault!!
