Confessions of a Movie Slut

in the year 2006, our heroine embarks on her most treacherous challenge yet-to lead a decent life despite the insanity and pressures that come with academia. she pursues honours in english though her thesis is on film. an opportunity to prove to herself that she can think. and actually think hard. will she finally transcend the ways of the fuckwit to become a competent person? will she be able to watch all those movies without growing a tumour or becoming catatonic? stay tuned.

an ode to jo.

contrary to my own irrational fears, the substation isn't very hard to find. to my relief, it is quite conspicuous... largely due to the big sign with 'the substation' embossed in gold paint hanging over the building's wide entrance. i tried my best not to feel stupid.

failing somewhat i then proceeded to get my free ticket (courtesy of the great jo) to romusha or slave labours- a humble but intense production about the world war 2 asian and european POWs who built the death railway for the japanese.

it was rather engaging... heaps of monologues to keep track of but the performers seemed to have thrown themselves into their roles passionately. it was a lesson in 'live' abjection too... it's one thing to read about gritty art, it's another matter to come face to face with it.

this is for my dear jo... i'm so proud of you. you really should pursue acting... your performance was captivating and you looked great! you've seen all and done all to get where you are. this is to the woman who is beautiful, brave and relentless in the pursuit of her dreams. i admire u so. cheers!
